Good find. Now, I *am* relatively certain my chip supports 'hardware
mixing' ... I just read a review which pointed out:

1 Primary buffer available
255 Total 2D hardware mixing buffers available
255 Static 2D hardware mixing buffers available
255 Streaming 2D hardware mixing buffers available
64 Total 3D hardware buffers available
64 Static 3D hardware buffers available
64 Streaming 3D hardware buffers available

So I should be good to go in that respect.

This isn't a very busy list, I guess. I would think this would be a
very frequently asked question... either that or it was just luck of the
draw that we both had such similar questions less than 12 hours apart...

Ok, thanks. Now that I know *that* is what hardware mixing is... I see
no (4) next to my chip, just that it is in CVS. My driver is based
around the Intel i8x0 series (nVidia's release was a patch to this) ...
none of them (they are out of CVS) have the (4) next to them. :-(

Guess my next stop is the developers list. Thank you for your help on
the matter... and sorry I don't have a solution to your problem; I'm
newer to ALSA than you, I guess. Please share the solution when you
find it, though! :-)

Rob
