Did you download the alsa RPM that is built for Redhat8.0.  I think I 
recall that you have to install the alsa-kernel & alsa-driver at the 
same time (rpm -ivh alsa*).  Then install alsa-lib alsa-lib-devel and 
alsa-utils.  Then modify /etc/modules.conf

I'll try and find that documentation that told me this, but give that a go.
