I am having a problem with my system. It actually happened due to a crash while using oss. The system froze immediately. After rebooting everytime i started the oss sound drivers the system froze. I changed to an older kernel, 2.4.10 stock from SUSE, recompiled my kernel, 2.4.19, (also removing all but the minimal collection of modules needed). Nothing.
Now I have installed alsa, but exactly the same problem. The modules don't freeze the system, but as soon as i try to play a sound file, using eg. ecasound, the system freezes dead. Where can my problem be?? I have something corrupt, but what? The BIOS maybe? I'd like to be able to solve this without reinstalling the entire system if possible. thanks for listening and for any help.
