Which Vaio? I have alsa working on a GRX, the kernel needs to have the
acpi patches added, whithout them the interrupt routing (I guess) is not
set up correctly and sound does not work. 

There are kernel rpms for 2.4.19+pre4+ll+preempt that include that patch
in the Planet CCRMA site:
