Hello there,

I`m struggling getting the sound to work with RH 8.0, I installed the following alsa packages:

alsa-driver-0.9.0rc5
alsa-lib-0.9.0rc5
alsa-lib-devel-0.9.0rc5
alsaplayer-0.99.72
alsa-utils-0.9.0rc5
alsa-xmms-0.9.7

My /etc/modules.config look like this:

# Native ALSA
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-Intel8x0

# OSS Setup
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
alias usb-controller usb-uhci

The card i810_audio is recognised but still I don`t have any sound, /etc/var/dmesg doesn`t report anything regarding sound...
lsmod doesn`t show i810_audio
var/log/messages reports:

ov 24 14:01:57 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
Nov 24 14:01:57 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-0
Nov 24 14:01:57 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
Nov 24 14:01:57 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-0
Nov 24 14:01:59 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-0
Nov 24 14:01:59 pluto modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-3

Maybe you have OSS compiled into the kernel and therefore can't load Alsa.
