I have ASUS A7V266E with built in C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 16) audio chip.
I had no problems using alsa-0.9.0rc1 cmipci driver. However my attempt to upgrade to alsa-0.9.0rc5 and later rc6 caused problems. Loading of module (with /etc/rc.d/init/alsasound start) causes /proc/asound/seq/driver device not found line. Modules are loaded, but do not work and cannot be unloaded, other than by hard reboot. Access to /proc/asound does not work either. ls /proc/asound seqfaults (and creates kernel oops), although subdirectories can be directly listed, like ls /proc/asound/card.
