Hi,
I am a newbie for linux, which is Mandrake 9.0.
My sound output volume is very low and have tried to improve it in many
different ways. The sound card is still working perfect under WindowsXP.

First of all, I like ask you to help me with the parameters for my CMI8738
sound card when I make the configure file for the linux kernel.

The following is the default parameters. I wonder if the default
parameters have to be changed to make the sound module work properly.
Is there any tool I can use to probe the sound card to find out which
parameters I should choose?

<M> C-Media PCI (CMI8338/8738)
[*] Enable legacy FM
(388) FM I/O 388, 3C8, 3E0, 3E8
[*] Enable legacy MPU-401
(330) MPU-401 I/O 330, 320, 310, 300
[*] Enable joystick
[*] Support CMI8738 based audio cards
[ ] Inverse S/PDIF in for CMI8738
[*] Enable S/PDIF loop for CMI8738

The reason why I am concerned about the parameters is that I got the following
error messages after compiling the kernel-2.4.19-16, the ALSA driver, lib and
utils.

[root@localhost alsa-utils]# modprobe snd-cmipci

/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/sound/pci/snd-cmipci.o.gz: init_module: No
such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including
invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/sound/pci/snd-cmipci.o.gz
failed
modprobe: insmod snd-cmipci failed

I have no problem with the following commands
modprobe snd-pcm-oss; modprobe snd-mixer-oss; modprobe snd-seq-oss

Any help will be appreciated.
