Yes. > ...are there any sound cards that can read more than one stream at a > time, ie: One copy of mp1e can open /dev/dsp0 for the CD input, another > copy can open /dev/dsp1 and record the line input, etc, etc? Even if > they were in mono.... I know of no consumer-grade soundcards that can do this. You *might* be able to split the left and right channels into two mono "devices" with a little .asoundrc magic, but I don't know how. .asoundrc is not the most thoroughly documented thing in the world :-] ... there are some examples of using two cards as one in the ALSA wiki, but I don't know about the reverse. See alsa.opensrc.org (seems to be down at the moment). > I guess I can just slap in four cheap sound cards, but this machine > only has 3 PCI slots total, and it's a rack mount industrial machine so > swapping out the motherboard is not an easy option. If it has USB, you could try attaching a couple of cheap USB sound devices to it, e.g. the iMic. I don't know how many of these you can use at once... Another option would be something like a used Delta 44, which would give you 4 analog inputs; with the aforementioned asoundrc magic, you could conceivably use it as 2 stereo devices or 4 mono devices. -- Paul Winkler http://www.slinkp.com "Welcome to Muppet Labs, where the future is made - today!" ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility Learn to use your power at OSDN's High Performance Computing Channel http://hpc.devchannel.org/ _______________________________________________ Alsa-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user
