I installed kernel 2.5.51 and module-init-tools-0.9.3. I was previously
using ALSA 0.9.0rc6 with 2.4.x kernels. Whenever I do anything that
needs sound devices, it automatically loads the appropriate modules as
defined in /etc/modules.conf.
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
alias eth0 8139too
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
I compiled all the modules in 2.5.51 and configured /etc/modprobe.conf
which the new modprobe tool needs. Using the modules.conf2modprobe.conf
tool it looks exactly the same. Now when I attempt to use any sound
programs or mixer, it fails because autoloading of the kernel modules
doesn't seem to happen.
If I manually use modprobe to load the appropriate ALSA modules, sound
works fine.
Any ideas?
