i'm having exactly the same problem. moreover the
driver doesn'l unload. if i try an "rmmod
snd-intel8x0"  i get a seg-fault.
lsmod shows the module as (deleted), but it just never
goes away.
i even tried the CVS version. 
i'm using kernel 2.4.20.
i think it's a driver problem. can anyone help?
