I'm having a similar problem with xmms playback running too fast.
Sounds like 44,100 files playing back at 48,000.

I have a delta66 with Debian woody, ALSA 0.9rc6, 2.4.19 kernel with
lowlatency patches.

Amixer results are the same as above.  Alsamixer shows 'Multi Track
Internal Clock' set to 48000, but I can't figure out how to change it.

I compiled envy24control from today's ALSA CVS.  Under 'Hardware
Settings' the 'Master Clock' section shows "Int 48000" selected.  I
can change this to "Int 44100" before or while playing an MP3, but it
sounds just as fast.  If I leave envy24control and restart it, the
selection will have reverted to "Int 48000" again.

Any suggestions?
