[Alsa-user] How to configure quake3?

I got installed alsa 9r6 with a sbpci512 in a Mandrake9 box. All common applications work well: kde3, xine with alsa-plugin, xmms with alsa-plugin, alsaplayer, and some more.

But I tried to run quake3 and quake2 but it stop when try to initialize the sound system. The console window says something like "inilializing sound" and nothing more happen.

Is there a special configuration that I need to run quake?

Why it stops when initialize the sound?
