I can say that I'm using a ymfpci with no troubles with ALSA 0.9.0rc6. I can
play and capture with no problems.

Configuration: KT333(a) + VT8235. The PCI sound card is attached to INT B#
pin @ ACPI IRQ 17.
Gentoo Linux 1.4_rc2; vanilla 2.4.20 kernel.
Erratic sound can be caused by bad interrupt priority, bad sharing, and/or
some buggy PCI bridges. The VT8233 and KT266(a) have reportedly had "broken"
PCI. This isn't really true, but bus parking was not implemented. While this
isn't included in PCI v2.1, Intel has been using bus parking for quite some
time, so this can cause problems with some sound chipsets that rely upon bus
parking.

In the BIOS, I have PCI delayed transaction, and some oher basic things set
to sensible settings. The sound card is not shared with any interrupt pigs
(VGA, SCSI, IDE, etc).

I haven't tried (don't own) any of the chips you have used, but I have
successfully tested emu10k1 based cards (Creative Live 5.1) and YMF744/754
(Hoontech). Neither had any problems, and the Creative card was tested on an
AMD-760+VT82C686B mainboard. Sound was clear and clean in both cases, for
both capture and playback.

I have also used OSS emulation with no problems on both cards.
