AFAICS timidity 2.11.x doesn't support ALSA 0.9.x. You can either apply the patch from <http://www.alsa-project.org/~iwai/alsa.html> or try the beta of timidity 2.12.0 from <http://www.onicos.com/staff/iz/timidity/dist/download.html>.
