I have Mercury's KOB P4M266 NDFSUMx mother board with
VT8233 AC'97 audio controller. I installed alsa driver
(0.9.0rc6). I added the module info to modules.conf
and ran "alsasound start". It didn't give any error,
but the /var/log/messages shows error in ac97_codec.c
"codec 0 is not ready". It prints some values also it
has got by reading the control reg. Also, "cat
/proc/asound/cards" returns "-- no soundcards --".
(And obviouly no sound also...)

I tried using the via82cxxx_audio driver in kernel
2.4.18. This had given the DEVICE_ID wrongly
(via82cxxx have 3058 as the id, whereas via8233 has
3059). I changed this value, and loaded the module. It
didn't give any error (With old value of device id, it
was giving an error "No such device"). I enabled the
PROC_FS also in that, and it prints the card info
correctly.

Now I unloaded the kernel module and loaded the ALSA
modules again. Wow!! It didn't give any "codec 0 is
not ready" error. Also, it displayed
/proc/asound/oss/sndstat with cards and mixer. (It
showed "NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG" for synth and midi
devices). But still no sound.. I tried putting an
audio CD, it plays and plays and plays.. but no
sound!!!!

Anybody has solution for this!!!

Soni.
