Thanks Clemens... 

I tried Takashi's suggestion with no success. However I know something
must work as the manual for the motherboard confirms MIDI output should
work. (I haven't got any version of win installed to test as yet, I
would love not to ever have to) 

I'll post the list the results... 

This may require a change in the instructions for the module on the ALSA
website.
