you can find a minimal datasheet and demo programs in alsa's ftp site. well, it's not easy to implement the enough good midi functions on this chip. even if you implement it, the quality would be not good as emu10k1 does becasue the chip doesn't provide functions such like envelope controls or lfo's. i recommend you simply to use a software synthesizer if you want a good quality.
