Yes I did, but it did no make any difference...it appears that one of the 
problems is that the alsa-script it doesn`t start at boot time, tried to 
started manually, then an error is display saying that it  cannot find:
snd-intel8x0...
So, late last night recompile the latest kernel- 2.4.20-2.44 adding support 
for alsa but to no avail....got a kernel panic...
