Okay, I'm quite at my wits end. I recently removed my GUSMAX card and installed a Soundblaster PCI 16. I've managed to get most things working just fine, including recording. BTW, seems that rc6 works better with this card than rc7.

However, I can't seem to get midi recording to work. I'm using Jazz++ and an external keyboard. When I try to record with jazz++ all events are mapped to midi channel 1. Now, I would initially suspect jazz++, but I know it worked before with ALSA 9x (not sure what version, but whatever came with mandrake 9.0, probably) and the GUSMAX.

Now, when I try to use Jazz++ with ALSA I get a bunch of error messages:

   ioctl: Inappropriate ioctl for device
subscribe input: Inappropriate ioctl for device
subscribe output: Inappropriate ioctl for device

And no recording ability at all. So, I set Jazz++ to use oss. Now, this works...almost. The problem now is that all midi events are mapped to channel 1.

If someone has a suggestion, I'd be most appreciative. Otherwise, guess I'll have to install the GUS again.

And if someone has a suggest for a simple midi recorder which actually compiles, well that'd be nice too. I think I've tried just about everything I can find and they all rely on a certain qt/gtk/etc and probably only compiled on the developer's machine. Matter of fact, why is midi so unsupported in linux. Opps, I'm ranting...sorry.
