It certainly is - things like xine and mplayer definitely support it.

You need the sfxload utility from the awesfx package.  Not sure exactly
where to get that, but hopefully someone here (or Google) knows.

There seems to be a DSP assembler for the emu10k1 in the alsa-tools
package, so that might be a good place to look.
