Hello alsa folks

I finally got some time to update my linux audio setup today for the
first time in a couple of months.

My main aim was to test the latest vxpocket driver and see if it works
with jackd/ ardour.

I installed alsa 0.91 from source, including installing vxloader in
/usr/local/bin/vxloader and putting

post-install snd-vxpocket /usr/local/bin/vxloader

in /etc/modutils/alsa

(its a debian ppc system, running a hand made benh ppc 2.4.20 kernel)

These are my observations:

When booting up, the vx is not recognised. I have to restart alsa, then
i can see the vx in alsamixer.

xmms runs fine through alsa-oss to the vx.

aplay will play long wavs through the vx no problems.

if i flick the mute switch for the 'pcm' channel in alsamixer on and
off quickly, the sound sometimes goes onto one channel only. a couple of
mute flicks brings it back to stereo.

arecord -D vxpocket -f cd test.wav

throws an Input/Ouput error then freezes the whole system.

I get similar results when i try to record using the audacity audio
editor (which doesn't seem to like the vx much at all). in this case,
its accessing alsa via alsa-oss.

I had better results with the old vx driver (jan 2003 cvs) - it recorded
through analogue and digital inputs but the recording was distorted.

I can't get jackd to start, e.g.

----

 jackd -d alsa -d hw:1

Sorry. The audio interface "hw:1"doesn't support either of the two
hardware sample formats that jack can use.

How is anyone else getting on with alsa/ vxpocket?

cheers
