I'm still trying to get ALSA working with the onboard sound on my ASUS A7V8X-X MB. The lspci command shows the audio controller as being a VT8233 AC97 Audio Controller. I'm using RedHat9 but with kernel 2.4.21-rc5. I am also using ALSA 0.9.4. The driver builds OK and the only indication I get that something might be wrong is the following error message when I load snd-via82xx:
ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:503: codec_valid: codec 0 is no valid [0xfe0000] The symptom is basically no sound - I'm using mpg321 to play an MP3 file. I know I've got ALSA working in general since I also have a SoundBlaster PCI-64 (I think that is the name) and I build the ALSA driver snd-ens1371. When I load this driver and set the mixed settings, I get sound from the SB. So, I know I'm building the drivers correctly and getting the mixer settings right etc, I'm just not getting any sound with the onboard controller. Oddly, when I try to build ALSA with --with-debug=full I get some strange unresolved symbol errors: "unresolved symbol _snd_magic_kcalloc_R{something}" So, my first question is - what does the error message about invalid codecs mean? And secondly, does anyone else have ALSA working with RH9 and an ASUS A7V8X-X?
