just to give a brief rundown of the situation with quake3 and teamspeak.

I have alsa installed, its fuly functional as far as i can tell. i hear
sound, i can run teamspeak (alone) and communicate.
altho the mic boost seems to be turned off. how can i turn this on? i
have to scream to be heard :)
next, regarding dsp0 and adsp0
I have the following configuration:
dsp -> adsp0
adsp -> dsp0

this way quake3 uses the read only device adsp0, and teamspeak can use
the full duplex device at dsp0
in a perfect world, this would work. (or so i would hope..) but it does
not.
I can run xmms, tell it to use either device and it will work.
I can run teamspeak and xmms, depending on who ran first, the second
will hang.

I came across a post on the teamspeak fourum regarding this issue, and
these commands were supposed to resolve it:
% echo "quake 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
% echo "quake 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss

these do nothing for me.
my alsa version is 0.9.4, and im using snd-via82xx on slackware 9.0
I have terminated the life of ARTS and other sound daemons.
so, any ideas would be appreciated.
I have to be doing something wrong. others have reported this to work,
at least with some other soundcards.
im close, im sure someone reading this has the answer.
did I screw up in the device swap?
what have I done wrong?
Thanks!
