Sorry, I just realized this sounds confusing.. I can put the receiver
into two modes, "Auto Format Decode" mode, where it decodes the incoming
signal and sends it out to the various speakers, or "2 Channel" mode,   
where it simply multiplexes all channels onto the left and right
speakers. In the "Auto Format Decode" mode, I only hear the left and
right channels, (which can be an interesting way of listening to some
scenes in a movie), but if I switch to "2 Channel" mode, then all 6  
channels are piped through to the left/right speakers.
