I've tried everything to no avail. My RedHat 9 system built on an Asus
P4PE (Intel 845 w/ AD1980) motherboard will not produce any sound.

The sound modules appear to load fine, but there is no sound. Here is
the pertinent output of lsmod:

Module Size Used by Tainted: P
snd-pcm-oss            45572   0  (autoclean)

snd-page-alloc          8452   0  (autoclean) [snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm]
soundcore               6404   4  (autoclean) [snd]

I've tried plugging the speakers into the microphone jack as suggested
in some postings without any luck. I've triple check the audio cables
from both of my CD-ROM drives without any luck. I've booted this system
into Windows and everything works fine. I've adjusted the volumes of
every possible setting in alsamixer without any luck.

Everything appears to be working. The CD Player app fires up
perfectly. It just doesn't make any noise.

I have successfully managed to get this functioning on two other RedHat
9 systems which have VIA chipsets.

Here is my /etc/modules.conf for the alsa stuff:
# Audio Driver (alsa)
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
post-install snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove snd-card-0 /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
alias snd-card-1 off
alias snd-card-2 off
alias snd-card-3 off

Does anyone out there have this working?

Thanks,
Brian
