Firstly, are you talking about the TerraTec DMX 6Fire 24/96? If so, have you tried to use alsamixer and envy24control to adjust volume settings? Make sure the Analog Input Select option in alsamixer is set to front or rear, depending on which one you want to use. You don't need to worry about this if you are recording from the phono jacks.
