Greetings everyone. I have an ASUS P4PE with its build in sound, and an M-Audio Delta 66. I am running Redhat 9. I previously had both soundcards working with alsa under RH8, but since then I have had no luck whatever.
I have downloaded and installed everything as per the instructions on the website, with the addition of the known work-around for the undefined schedule_work symbol on RH9. (That is, I THINK I followed the instructions. I have installed alsa many times before with no troubles.) When I first fire up alsamixer, it starts fine. Later, after I have fiddled a bit with /etc/modules.conf (which I frankly do not understand in the least), and then rebooted, alsamixer reports "no mixer elems found." What does that message mean? The Delta 66 certainly has on-board hardware mixing capabilities. I suppose I have done something wrong somewhereduring installation, but I do not find any great set of documentation on alsa on the website. BTW, the soundcards are working fine, and all the connections are right. My system is a dual boot RH / WinXP machine, as I use Cubase with the Delta card. If I boot up XP, both cards work. The one goof I made was to run the snddevices shell script, although I think RH9 uses devfs, whatever that is. Thanks in advance for any hints; let me know if I should post more info. -- David Penton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email sponsored by: Free pre-built ASP.NET sites including Data Reports, E-commerce, Portals, and Forums are available now.
