Yes, works flawless here through optical out. I tested ac3-avis, DVDs in
mplayer/xine and had no problems at all.

$ ./ac3dec -C Bjorn_Lynne-Starfield_(5-1_Surround).ac3
Using PCM device 'plug:iec958:{AES0 0x2 AES1 0x82 AES2 0x0 AES3 0x2}'
AC3 Stream 48.0 KHz 448 kbps
=> my receiver detects full 5.1

$ ./ac3dec -P Bjorn_Lynne-Starfield_(5-1_Surround).ac3
Using PCM device 'plug:iec958:{AES0 0x87 AES1 0x0 AES2 0x0 AES3 0x0}'
AC3 Stream 48.0 KHz 448 kbps
=> my receiver detects full 5.1

$ ./ac3dec -R Bjorn_Lynne-Starfield_(5-1_Surround).ac3
5.1 Mode 48.0 KHz 448 kbps Complete Main Audio Service
Using PCM device 'plug:iec958:{AES0 0x0 AES1 0x82 AES2 0x0 AES3 0x2}'
=> my receiver does not detect ac3, stereo only output

You'll find the song I played at http://www.lynnemusic.com/surroundmusic.html

OT: Do you know where to get any other .ac3 samples? Had a hard time on Google
to find this page...

Almost same configuration, I'm using a Hoontech Digital XG with 2.4.21 and
alsa 0.9.4 on Debian unstable.
