Anything in dmesg?  What does /proc/asound/cards say?

Are you using an ALSA player application?  It does not appear so from
the "/dev/dsp" usage.  Try alsamixer and aplay.

Perhaps you do not have the OSS emulation loaded? (snd-pcm-oss)
