I did get alsa working on my Redhat 9 system, already with version
0.9.4, but after playing sound for a longer while (I was listening to
MP3s using XMMS), things went wrong:

When using the XMMS esd output plugin, the sound gets garbled after a
few minutes. When using the alsa output plugin, the sound plays twice as
fast in short, even intervals after a few minutes. It feels like
something goes wrong with the sampling rate after playing sound for a
while... The standard OSS driver (i810) didn't have this problem, so I
figured it may lie with alsa.

My system:
Dell Inspiron 8200
Intel 82801CA-ICH3 at 0xd800, irq 11
Redhat 9 - kernel 2.4.20-19.9

alsa-utils-0.9.5-fr1 (RPM)
alsa-lib-0.9.5-fr1 (RPM)
kernel-module-alsa-0.9.5-fr1_2.4.20_19.9 (built from SRPM for i686)
alsa-driver-0.9.5-fr1 (built from SRPM for i686)
alsa-driver-debuginfo-0.9.5-fr1 (built from SRPM for i686)
    - I have a feeling I can use this, but how? ;-)

xmms-1.2.7-21.p (RPM)
xmms-alsa-0.9.12-1.fr (RPM)

esound-0.2.28-4 (RPM)

This has been going on for a while, and pretty much made it impossible
to listen to music. Does anyone know how to solve this or how to get
more detailed (error) information from my system?
