I'm trying to play sounds with arts (kde 3.1.0,stock mdk9.1) and alsa on a 2.6.0-test2 kernel system. The audio HW is a Intel Corp. 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio (rev 05) and I've seen some strange behaviour. I'm unable to understand if it's due to alsa, arts or both. Anyway: If I use arts with alsa all seems to work fine apart from realplayer 8: if i play something with rp the vu-meters of artscontrol shows activity but no sound comes out of the card; if in the same moment I fire up,say, mplayer, a simple wav or even esd (with artsdsp) I can heard it. If I switch to oss (with arts) all goes fine, even rp 8. Then I've tried alsa oss emulation and I can hear rp8 with others sources just fine, but the volume controls of kmixer act in a funny way: every time that I stop a sound source,i.e. stopping rp8, the volume goes off. If I start again rp I've to touch the slider (or switch back and forth muting for that channel) to hear again the sound. I don't know exactly if this behaviour is related directly to alsa, but it seems likely...
