Hello everyone,

I have Intel ac97/1810 sound card and I tried to get
it to work in Red Hat 9 but could not succeed.

Anyway I went on the alsa website downloaded lib util
and driver package and followed the instructions from:
http://alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php3?company=Intel&card=i820&chip=i820&module=intel8x0

I did not recompile kernel or anything but installed
as it said
(when I was running

        bunzip2 alsa-driver-xxx
        tar -xf alsa-driver-xxx
        cd alsa-driver-xxx
        ./configure --with-cards=intel8x0
--with-sequencer=yes;make;make install

I got a warning that modprobe not found I then added
it ot my PATH and ran it again but I think it did not
do everything from scratch)

When I ran alsa mixer this is what I got:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default:
No such file or directory

I then added modules to kernel and then pasted the
stuff in
/etc/modules.conf
(but I just pasted did not specify any other options a
s I dont know what to specify)
and I made the .asoundrc file as described.

I restarted my computer but still no sound.

When I run sndconfig and dmesg this is what I got:

sndconfig:
I ran it and it detected my soundcard but then when it
tried to play a sample sound it said,
/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:

      init_module: No such device

/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:

      insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o

      failed

/lib/modules/2.4.18-14/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:

      insmod sound-slot-0 failed

For demsg
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:1f.5
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 00:1f.3
PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:1f.5 to 64
intel8x0: clocking to 48000
Intel 810 + AC97 Audio, version 0.24, 17:59:48 Mar 13
2003

Also if I download the driver from www.opensound.com,
I get it ot work but then the trial version from
opensound expires, so is there a way I can use the
settings done by opensound software and then configure
some modules or something.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Zubair.
