I have an Sb Awe64 sound card and I have never gotten a sound out of it since installing linux a month ago. The built-in drivers caused an irq error, so I have now installed the alsa drivers 0.9.6
During installation, everything went fine. modprobe was no problem but after I turned up the mixer settings, no sound at all came through. There were no error messages in the system log (typing dmesg). During bootup however, when the kernel is searching for kernel dependencies, it will find:
snd-card-0 [OK]
but then have these lines:
snd-card-1 [FAILED]
snd-card-2 [FAILED]
snd-card-3 [FAILED]
I'm confused about this. I only have 1 sound card installed, so why should modprobe be looking for some other card, especially when the /etc/modules.conf files doesn't include any references to these devices.
When I try to play an mp3 file on xmms, it locks up. When I try to do "cat crash.au > /dev/dsp", I get "write error: Input/Output error".
Could someone please provide me with some info as to how I go about solving this error? I've asked on irc both on the alsa and creative channels, but noone knew anything about this. I've looked everywhere, but no one seems to have the same problem with this card.
I would be more than happy to supply any logs or configuration files info that are needed.
