I'm considering building a machine for use with the HDSP9652 and ardour to act as a digital mixer/recorder.
After pawing through some of the alsa mailing list archives I've found various people talk about bugs/problems with the drivers written for the HDSP9652 card. On the whole it sounds like it is possible to get this operational. What I haven't determined is if it is possible to use any of the Analog Expansion boards in this setup. On the RME website, they point to a "Settings" gui that shows how you implement these expansion boards. Is there a similar gui or config file under linux/alsa that allows one to enable these expansion boards?
I'm not looking for a highly technical answer here. I'm just wondering if this setup is doable. I don't own a HDSP9652 (yet) and I haven't attempted to install alsa.
