Hello ,

I am using the on-board soundcard of my motherboard with alsa
0.9.6 . I`ve been using it with the analog outputs with no problems .
Rerecently I purchased Creative Digital 5500 5.1 speakers and I started
using the s/pdif coaxial output . Generally , it works . However the is
some strange behaviour :

-mp3s/internet radio strems under xmms with low bitrates (like 32
, 64,24 kbps etc) are not audible. Ordinary mp3s (112+ kbps) are all audible
-I havent gotten xmame to produce any sound with s/pdif
-system events sounds in kde from s/pdif are either inaudible , or
they are played with noise.

In every occasion , the analog outputs work flawlessly .
I am using slackware 9 , kernel 2.4.22

00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233 AC97
Audio Controller (rev 50

I am loading the following modules

/sbin/modprobe snd-via82xx
/sbin/modprobe snd-pcm
/sbin/modprobe snd-timer
/sbin/modprobe snd-mpu401-uart
/sbin/modprobe snd-rawmidi
/sbin/modprobe snd-seq-device
/sbin/modprobe snd-ac97-codec
/sbin/modprobe snd-page-alloc

Anyone has an idea where I should start looking?

        Best regards ,
