I had to compile with --disable-verbose-printk to get it work.
I was running 0.9.0 before without problems except some sound quality issues.
Also, when I try to start tuxracer the following message appears:
SDL: Audio timeout - buggy audio driver? (disabled) audio: Bad file descriptor
XMMS cannot play anything but no debug information is given by the program...
No idea where's the problem...
I verified: all modules are loaded, i have no error message, alsa mixer is working and the channels are not muted... but my Mandrake is still quiet! :-) (I have also windows xp and the sound is working on xp)
u can verify too by lsmod command if ur snd_via82xx module is loaded. I have an USB headphone and if is connected via's alsa module don't load correctly. Me i launch "manualy" by /etc/rc.d/rc.local command modprobe and rmmod alsa modules.
I hope It help u
PS : Sorry for my english (i'm french).

Thank you, but I already tried this. In fact, something is working cause I can hear that background noise in speakers is affected when I modify master volume and PCM volume. Moreover, I tried to deactivate aRTs server and I obtained only a strong sound (not noise) in speakers, but nothing more. I think I have incorrect settings in modules.conf. I tried both settings, from original Mandrake installation, and from the alsa site.
Best regards, Mihai
