Hi I am a linux mandrake 9.1 user (kernel 2.4.21 and alsa 0.9.0rc8) user and the owner of a VAIO laptop with a VIA VT8233 (rev 50) sound chip. Apart from the crakles of the sound if the sample rate isn't 48000 Hz, I have an other problem. After a look at the /var/log/syslog file, I can see:
Oct 10 19:23:10 localhost kernel: PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:11.5 to 64 Oct 10 19:23:10 localhost alsa: succeeded Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-1 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-2 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-3 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-4 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-5 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-6 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-7 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost alsa: succeeded Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-1 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-2 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-3 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-4 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-5 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-6 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module snd-card-7 Oct 10 19:23:11 localhost random: Initializing random number generator: succeeded the following lines are added in my /etc/modules.conf file: above snd-via82xx snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx options snd-via82xx dxs_support=2 and the output of the lsmod command is (sound related modules): snd-seq-oss 29568 0 (unused) snd-seq-midi-event 3304 0 [snd-seq-oss] snd-seq 37168 2 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event] snd-pcm-oss 39972 1 snd-mixer-oss 13656 0 [snd-pcm-oss] snd-via82xx 12204 1 snd-ac97-codec 37120 0 [snd-via82xx] snd-pcm 61280 0 [snd-pcm-oss snd-via82xx] snd-timer 14760 0 [snd-seq snd-pcm] snd-mpu401-uart 3168 0 [snd-via82xx] snd-rawmidi 14016 0 [snd-mpu401-uart] snd-seq-device 4192 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq snd-rawmidi] snd-page-alloc 4812 0 [snd-via82xx snd-pcm] snd 30148 0 [snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-via82xx snd-ac97-codec snd-pcm snd-timer snd-mpu401-uart snd-rawmidi snd-seq-device] soundcore 3972 0 [snd] So, what's the mistake?
