I'm hoping someone will be able to shed some light on this problem, after not finding anything on an archive search.

When I run aplay with .wav files with sampling rates higher than 8kHz, aplay hangs. Several files with an 8kHz sampling rate play just fine, but for 11025 and 22050 kHz rates with 'aplay -v', the process hangs just after displaying the first line with the wave file format.

The particulars:

233MHz Pentium-2 processor
CreativeLabs CT4810 = Ensoniq AudioPCI sound card
Mandrake 9.1 minimum installation with text mode only
2.4.21 kernel
ALSA 0.9.0-0.14rc7 installed from rpms on the Mandrake distribution CDs
I added to /etc/modules.conf:
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 snd-ens1371
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

although something in the init process at bootup keeps changing the 'alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0' line to 'alias sound-slot-0 snd-0'.

Does anybody see what I've done wrong? (I have ALSA is running fine on another machine, a RedHat 9.0 full installation with version 0.9.6 compiled from source driving a via82xx motherboard sound module.)

Thanks-
John
