Is artsd in KDE using OSS? If so, try to configure artsd for ALSA.
Are Kaboodle and Noatun OSS apps only?

I don't know why XMMS's OSS output doesn't work. Perhaps it has something to 
do with OSS emulation and your default .asoundrc spdif config?

XMMS's (1.2.8) ALSA output is broken for ice1712/ice1724 cards. It might have 
something to do with the "Mixer device" definition which doesn't work with 
these cards. Try alsa-xmms 0.9.12 instead, or dump XMMS and replace it with 
AlsaPlayer.
