i'm running the audigy with alsa drivers/libs/tools 0.9.8 with a 2.4.22
kernel (slackware). ac3 works fine. checke this out, i didn't anything
else than following these instructions:

as i see you've allready noticed that you have to configure the driver
with the "--disable-verbose-printk" parameter, so i have nothing else to
add.
