With the help of some people on #fedora and #alsa, I was able to compile the cvs. As you mentioned, the computer no longer freezes. However, I still can't hear any sound even though I've tried just about everything I could think of.

Forgive my lack of experience, but when I do a configure, make and install it doesn't seem to make the alsamixer file. That is, when I type alsamixer, I just get an error.

So I unmuted from fedora's volume controller. However, I still cannot hear any sound. Speakers are plugged into the right port on the back of the computer, plugged into the electrical outlet, and also turned on -- so that's not the problem.

Also, I have no /dev/midi device if that makes any difference. (Though I do seem to have /dev/midi0, /dev/midi00, /dev/midi01, and a few others).

If there is any other info I shoudl provide as to what my problem is, please let me know.

Thanks,

- Matthew
