Hi ! Not sure wether this is the proper forum to ask this question, but here I go anyway -- any help or pointer where to ask appreciated.
I'm trying to use a RME Hammerfall DSP under SuSE Linux 9.0. Kernel is 2.4.21-144-default (updated today). My system is a dualboot notebook (Dell Inspiron 5150). Under WinXP Home the Hammerfall works just nicely. Now I'd like to use it under Linux. I have downloaded the complete suite for alsa 1.0.0pre3 and built it by running ./configure (added "--with-sequencer=yes --with-debug=detect" for driver) make su make install in the directories driver, lib, utils, oss, tools/hdsploader, firmware in that order. Now errors or problems during install AFAICT. During boot I get the following msg: Starting sound driver: snd-hdsp /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o failed /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o: insmod snd-hdsp failed When trying to insmod snd-hdsp I get: mgd:/ # insmod snd-hdsp Using /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o /lib/modules/2.4.21-144-default/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-hdsp.o: unresolved symbol snd_hwdep_new_R6651cb64 The relevant (AFAIA) part of modules.conf is: modules.conf---modules.conf---modules.conf---modules.conf options snd-hdsp enable=1 index=1 line_outs_monitor=1 precise_ptr=0 options snd-intel8x0 ac97_clock=0 enable=1 index=0 joystick_port=0 mpu_port=0 options snd cards_limit=2 major=116 # YaST2: sound system dependent part # alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1 alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-slot-2 off alias sound-service-2-0 off alias sound-slot-3 off alias sound-service-3-0 off # W60f.RWLKeBGsCJ0:82801DB AC'97 Audio Controller alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 # svHJ.CDFbk44pN+A:RME Hammerfall DSP alias snd-card-1 snd-hdsp alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-11 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-1-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-1-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-1-11 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss modules.conf---modules.conf---modules.conf---modules.conf What is/could be the cause and how do I get this to work ?
