Hi all,

I spent the remaining two days trying to configure my SbLive card to make it work with surround40 (or any of the other surround options, really...). The thing is, before my kernel-update to 2.4.23 and an installation of the ALSA 1.0.0rc1 surround was working...
I tried reinstalling ALSA 0.9.8, but to no avail. Here is the problem in detail:

First of all I couldn't get the rear speakers to work (aplay -D rear test.wav did nothing). After quite some search I found out that within the /usr/share/alsa/cards/EMU10K1.conf in the pcm.rear.0 section the PCM Send Volume was sending to some other channels than channel 3 and 4 (which are actually the rear speakers...)

Changed that and the rear speakers worked perfectly. And now it started to get really strange:

I tried aplay -D surround40 test.wav and got the following error:

Playing WAVE 'test.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 22050 Hz, Mono
aplay: set_params:833: Channels count non available

Analogous results with alsaplayer, only different error message:
        alsaplayer -d surround40 test.wav
        error on set_channels (2)
