I recently updated my kernel from 2.5.69 (ALSA 0.9.2) to 2.6.0-test9 (ALSA 0.9.7), and my sound suddenly stopped working. I'm using 0.9.8 alsa-base and alsa-utils (debian packages). I have a VIA 8233A AC'97 built-in card and all the drivers load normally (using the via82xx driver on both kernels). I get no errors, and applications act like they are playing sound, but I get no audio. It's as if it is permanently muted, but alsamixer and amixer both show that the channels are unmuted and set to max volume.
I can boot back and forth between kernels and always get sound in 2.5.69 but never in 2.6.0. As far as I can tell, everything remains the same in /proc/asound between kernels. I've tried setting the dxs_support option to all possible values, and also tried statically building the drivers into the kernel, but nothing has worked yet. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks...

Not sure what other details might be useful (/proc/asound stuff?); just ask!
