Hi!

I ran alsa successfully for a very long time. But suddenly, since a few
days, alsa isn't working anymore. My situation:

kernel      : kernel-image-2.4.22-1-k7
alsa-base   : 0.9.8-3
alsa-headers: 0.9.8-3
alsa-utils  : 0.9.8-1
alsa-modules: alsa-modules-2.4.22-1-k7 (0.9.6+1)
used alsa-modul: via82cxxx

Starting/stopping alsa via /etc/init.d/alsa works without problems. No
errors.
aplay any.wav leads to this:
---
| Playing WAVE '/lw/C/WINDOWS/Media/ding.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little
| Endian, Rate 22050 Hz, Stereo
| aplay: pcm_write:1084: write error: Input/output error
---

i also did the following:
$ dd if=/dev/urandom of=rand.dat bs=69632 count=1
$ cat rand.dat > /dev/dsp
which lead to an io-error

if i do the same with bs=69631 (one byte less) i don't get that error.
But in both cases: absolutly silence. no 'sound'.

I also compiled alsa (base, utils, modules) myself. But i get the
same...

What else can i do? How to track down the problem?
Again, my hardware is not the problem: If i use Knoppix3.3: no problems,
sound is working...

Thanks in advance,
Henning
