Hi,
I’m planning on getting an RME multiface to use with Linux. Over the last few days, I’ve read various things about the development of the ALSA drivers for this soundcard and got quite confused. Could you please tell me the current status of these drivers? My system would be as follows:
-Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop -RME Multiface with PCMCIA card -Redhat Linux 9
Would I be able to use this configuration without any problems?
Thanks a Lot, Gautham
Hi Gautham,
The RME Multiface + Cardbus is fully supported, and most users have no problem with this card, however there is a long lasting issue with the driver yet to be identified (I'm working on it ATM) that manifests on certain setups. I believe that this problem is rather an exception than the norm, and anyway hope to find a solution for it very soon.
So in short there should not be any problem, but I can make no guarantee about this. If ever you encountered problems, though, be certain I'll do my best to solve them as fast as I can. Please also note that we have an excellent relationship with RME, that is one of the few companies out there to be really concerned with linux as an audio platform, and has been extremely supportive so far. You should take this as the long term assurance that everyone here is willing to get things working as smoothly as possible.
If you plan to use Redhat, I would recommend that you install the Planet CCRMA packages to be sure you get the latest alsa drivers, a kernel optimized for audio and almost every linux audio application out there in their latest and greatest incarnation.
