Hi, I'm trying to make Xine or Mplayer play a 5.1 DVD using Alsa but the results are quite disappointing. The channels seem to be inverted or mixed (front in rear, no main voices, only the right side for rear channel). There is probably something missing in the configuration maybe I need to use .asoundrc. I tried to understand how it works but I did not find anything related to similar problems. I'm using a 2.6.2 kernel and Alsa 1.0.1., the sound chip is a SIS7012. The sound works well if I downmix to 4 or 2 channels.
