Yes, I belatedly noticed a message that mentioned that on the ALSA i810 page. Since I am mostly using freevo on that box (using my TV as a display), and that freevo mostly uses mplayer, I ended up adding the '-srate 48000' option to the mplayer args in the freevo config files.
