Hi,

I'm newbie user and I'm currently getting into magic of asoundrc. But I have
some problems and would like to ask some more or less beginner's questions:

I have two sound cards (expecting third Delta410 with 4 output channels) for
whole house audio device. I have multiple apps producing sounds (speech
synthesis, mp3ogg players, intercom feature between cards, voip apps...).
I'd like to have as general as possible "black box" dealing with multiple
sources and multiple outputs. I'd like to change parameters/connections in
this black box dynamically (as situation requests - like incoming voip call,
intercom from one card to another, interruption of music playing on speech
announcements....).

I'd like to start with Alsa and see what I can do on this level (will be
happy on any info or advice for higher levels -Jack, Ecasound...):
- I'd like to have two pcm dmix devices that will output toeach sound card
and accept streams from more sources (alsaplayer, aplay, ...). I've done
this with setting dmix as default for both cards, but it one is working and
another is just silent....
- I'd like to have possibly separate pcm device, from where I could accept
multiple streams and output them to both cards simultaenously (for speech
announcements - if I get it right it seems not suitable for music cause of
time drift on longer intervals - is this true ?)
- I'd like to have possibility to route (cross) audio streams ob both cards
(so they are able to "speak" to each other). How to do this in Alsa and can
it be done dynamically ?

Thanks in advance,

Robert.
