Dear all,

I'm new to the list, which I basically joined to get help for
the following problem:

I'm working on a Dell D800 laptop with RedHat Linux 7.3 and kernel 2.4.20.
That machine is equipped with an intel 810 chipset on-board(as far as I know)
soundcard.

I've just discovered the 1.0.2 release and tried to install it.
Building everthing (i.e. driver, lib, utils, tools, oss) was no problem
(except for a minor bug in intel8x0.c l. 1703) and installing neither.

However, alsaconf in the end fails:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Starting sound driver: snd-intel8x0 /lib/modules/2.4.20-24.7/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o:
unresolved symbol sound_class
/lib/modules/2.4.20-24.7/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.20-24.7/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-24.7/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o: insmod snd-intel8x0 failed
done
Setting default volumes...
Saving the mixer setup used for this in /etc/asound.state.
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1061: No soundcards found...
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The uppermost message makes me suspect that it's something with a wrong library snd.o
was linked against.
However, I'm not enough into that stuff to figure out myself what went wrong.
Can it be something with the kernel I'm running (2.4.20-24.7) ?
Or did I maybe compile in the wrong order? I first made alsa-driver, then alsa-lib. Do
I need
to install alsa-lib++ also?

Thanks to anyone who can help,

        Mirko
